Double Check

It's opening day in a new town. I have a new job and was accepted into a new hunting club. I have served my time on club work days and rifle season was here. Like many clubs, we have a sign in board to let people know who is where at what time. First to the board gets his or her choice at any stand on the property. I had one stand in mind and I was going to 100% be the first.

Alarm goes off at 4:30 and I'm at the sign in board at 4:50 am. I signed in and drove to the parking area for what I believed to be the right stand for me. It's a 15 minute walk to the stand. I new the deer where already awake because I had seen some as I was driving in and  knew to be even more silent than usual.

I had finally reached my stand around 5:15 that morning. Climbed up and began to settle down. I went into my bag to get my bullets to begin loading my rifle. But the box was empty. I began to see if the bullets were at the bottom of my bag, but no they were not. Not in the big compartment and not in the little compartment. I had in fact gone hunting with not a single bullet to shoot. Suffice it to say, I was infuriated.

And this is why this article is called the Double Check.
